How many statues do we pass in the streets and we don't know the stories behind them? How many of them we even don't notice and if we do, they just present past times
and different regimes for us?
Anidoc Desire To Win tells the extraordinary life story of Czechoslovakian sculptor Zdeněk Němeček. He was fascinated by sport dynamic movement and his artistic goal was to freeze it in his works. The film maps his creative path and shows his passion
for sport and movement.
The film also touches on the theme of an artist – communist. Today it is easy to judge him for his convictions, but thanks to testimonies of his own family, athletes and art theorists we could learn more about his motivations and about his personal struggle which led
to the premature end of his life in 1989. But the main theme of the film is not death
or sadness. It's the passion of an artist no matter what.
Visually Desire To Win combines old sport magazines, photos and video archives
with animated miniatures of Němeček's sculptures in different materials
(gypsum, clay and 3D print).
